Prof. Dr. Philipp Adelhelm

Philipp Adelhelm is a materials scientist and Professor at Humboldt University of Berlin. His work focuses on advancing battery technologies to drive the energy transition.

Main interests of his group are:

i) the development of electrode materials for Na-ion batteries

ii) alternative cell concepts (metal-sulfur, solid-state, co-intercalation)

iii) the use of operando techniques to characterize batteries during charging/discharging

He leads a joint research group on operando battery analysis between Humboldt-University Berlin and Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie (HZB) and is one of the founding scientific directors of the Berlin Battery Lab. He is also member of the Center for the Science of Materials Berlin (CSMB) and a Wilhelm Ostwald Fellow at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM). In 2025, he was awarded the Berlin Science Prize (Berliner Wissenschaftspreis).
